Fortnite’s monster-filled Halloween mode ends Sunday with a one-time event

Fortnite’s monster-fueled “Fortnitemares” event is coming to an end this weekend, and it looks like it will end with a bang. Developer Epic Games announced today that the Halloween event will end on Sunday, and that a one-time-only occurrence will happen in-game that day at 1PM ET. “Login early and be in-match to witness the one-time event,” the developer tweeted.

“Fortnitemares” kicked off last week, and it represented a dramatic change for the game, filling the map with ominous crystals that produced hordes of zombie-like monsters. (They’re definitely not zombies, though.) It’s a great example of just how much the battle royale game can change in a short period of time.

This isn’t the first time Epic has had one-time only events in the game. Back in June, a long-anticipated rocket launch took place in Fortnite, leading to a dramatic rift in the sky, which led to all kinds of changes for the game. It also showed how Fortnite is able to tell its own unique stories without a traditional narrative and how its competitive nature can sometimes conflict with those ambitions.

We’re not quite sure what to expect from Sunday’s big event, but if the rest of Fortnite’s sixth season is any indication, it’ll be worth experiencing live.
